OPPO Find N2 Review: The Best Foldable Hardware Out There

I tested the OPPO Find N last year and it was a very pleasant surprise... well. It was a very clever and compact design that oozed quality. It had a gap-free design and a great hinge that hid creases better than any other folding option. Well, the OPPO Find N2 is here, and it offers all that and a few more improvements that we'll discuss in this review.

Before you begin, please note that our tester is designed for the Chinese market. This phone is not available globally at the time of writing this review. It has a sibling the Find N2 Flip, but not the Find N2. The state of foldable tablets and apps probably has a lot to do with it, but OPPO may yet change its mind. Other than that, I was able to install Google Play Services on this phone without any issues and everything worked fine. However, we will talk about the software later. Let's begin.

Find OPPO N2 Review: Hardware/Design

The OPPO Find N2 is very similar to its predecessor but a premium product. It is made of metal, carbon fiber and glass. It's available in both glass and vegan leather-backed versions. For clarity, I used the latter. It has flatter sides than its predecessor, which is actually a good thing. They have beveled edges and the phone is very comfortable to hold and use. This is without a doubt the most convenient vertical folding smartphone I have ever used.

It is 42 grams lighter than its predecessor.

This thing is 42 grams lighter than the Find N. In comparison, the Find N is heavier than the Galaxy Z Fold 4, while the Find N2 is much lighter. The vegan leather model weighs 233g, while the glass-backed model weighs 237g. OPPO has been able to achieve this in part due to the use of carbon fiber. It is slightly thinner than its predecessor, which is always welcome in foldable devices.

OPPO has developed the second generation Flexion hinges for this phone and they are as good as ever. Well, well actually. According to OPPO the fold is less noticeable, and it's not really as bad as the Galaxy Z Fold 4. OPPO has even managed to reduce the number of parts inside the wrist from 138 to 100, which is quite an achievement. . You can tilt your phone to 45 degrees and 125 degrees and leave it there. It's totally versatile and quite frankly what I wear. The folding mechanism feels solid and screams usability.

I have used several foldables over the years and this is by far my favorite. This form factor is something I think other OEMs should be targeting. OPPO has done a great job here. One thing people will undoubtedly point out is that it doesn't offer an official IP rating. You must not get this phone wet. The Galaxy Z Fold 4 offers this, but I don't (usually) use my phone in the rain and situations I need to. So it's not really a problem, and I'd rather have a small form factor, low noise, and no gap design than an IP rating. Of course, this may not be the case for you.

OPPO also puts a case in the box, at least it was included in our retail box. This means that it will definitely come in a vegan leather model, we're not sure about the glass back model. It is certainly a very beautiful thing. It is made of plastic but feels a bit rubbery. It's hard to explain, but it's really beautiful. This is a two part situation. The back snaps onto the back of the device, while the front has sticky pads inside. When fully on, the case looks great. As you can see from the pictures, I didn't even use the adhesive pad on the front of the case because I only attached the case for testing purposes and for these pictures.

The main difference between the OPPO Find N2 and other vertically foldable phones is the aspect ratio of the screen. Like its predecessor, the Find N2 focuses on landscape orientation. We're talking about your home screen, of course. It has a 7.1-inch foldable LTPO AMOLED display with 1792 x 1920 resolution. This screen looks great, even better than the Find N, although that was good too It has bold colors, deep blacks, and is really loud when you need it to be. It can reach a maximum brightness of 1550 nits. This screen is also compatible with HDR10+ content.

The cover screen now has a 120Hz refresh rate.

The second screen measures 5.54 inches. The screen has a resolution of 2120 x 1080 and is a flat AMOLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate, but the right side is slightly curved for ease of use. This screen has a maximum brightness of 1350 nits and is protected by Gorilla Glass Victus. This is a huge improvement over the Find N, as the Find N lid has a 60Hz panel. To be honest, the N2 cover screen looks pretty good. It is strong and smooth. Blacks are deep and viewing angles are great.

Both panels offer a touch sample rate of 480Hz.

To make things better, both displays have a 480Hz touch sampling rate. Many people don't care, but if you do, you'll be glad to know. I realized how nice it was to communicate with her, so I had to go find her. We're very pleased that OPPO offers such quality on both screens, which is a huge improvement over our first generation model.

To be honest, I mainly used the mainboard during my usage. Whenever I could, I unlocked my phone. However, this protective shield was definitely useful. When I'm out and about and can't use my phone with two hands, the screen protector has served me well. It was very responsive and big enough, just not for my small hands. Holding the phone was no problem and the vegan leather definitely helped. Also, the main screen crease is barely visible, much less noticeable than Galaxy Z Fold 4, Flip 4, HONOR Magic Vs, etc. I often do). rotates around) but less than almost everyone else, which is a good thing.

OPPO Find N2 Review: Performance

OPPO Find N2 is equipped with Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC. This processor has proven its effectiveness in various phones in 2022. It also worked very well on the OPPO Find N2. OPPO is paired with 12GB/16GB LPDDR5 RAM. In our case, it was a model with 12 GB of RAM. Android 13 also includes UFS 3.1 flash storage. OPPO's ColorOS 13 comes pre-installed.

The performance was great

I have no complaints in terms of smoothness and performance. Everything from opening and closing apps and consuming media to photo editing and playing games was very fluid. Playing on the home screen was really nice and everything ran smoothly for this chip. So bottom line, I haven't had any issues with lag, slowdowns or anything like that. We'll talk about software later, and I won't go into it here. However, the fingerprint scanner works great. It's fast and accurate. You can set it to activate when you physically press it, or simply by placing your finger on the power button.

Find the N2 in OPPO Tests: Battery

OPPO Find N2 has a 4520mAh battery. It is 20mAh bigger than OPPO Find N But this time, the screen protector has a 120Hz refresh rate and a bit more The thing is, Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 is great when it comes to power consumption, and ColorOS takes care of the battery too. I was a little apprehensive at first, but it turns out the battery life is pretty good. Well, at least as far as my expenses are concerned.

Since the Find N2 has two screens, your results may vary greatly. We all use different apps, have different signal strengths, etc. So… remember. Also, I haven't really played games on the phone except for testing purposes. However, I did everything else: messaging, email, surfing, lots of photos, some video, photo editing, video editing, etc. Something other than normal gaming.

I managed to get very, very good battery life

I was able to get about 6.5 to 7 hours of screen time out of the device (sometimes more). However, I used the main screen and the screen protector quite a bit, but I would say the main screen got the most use in a day. You can get more than 7 hours of screen time, it all depends on your usage and battery settings. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised by the battery life here.

67W charging was also pretty decent. It was fast as I was able to fully charge the phone in about 40 minutes. The device also supports reverse wired charging, but unlike its predecessor, it does not support wireless charging at all. However, I understand why OPPO did this to keep the phone as light and thin as possible and to avoid unnecessary heat.

OPPO Find N2 Review: Camera

OPPO Find N2 is equipped with a 50MP main camera, a 48MP ultra-wide camera and a 32MP telephoto lens. The camera performance was really good as compared to the original camera. I was able to get very nice pictures that look completely realistic. They did not see additional treatments or exposure to light. Sharpness never felt too aggressive, and the camera handled even exposure and HDR photos well. Winters here are very bad and I didn't get a chance to capture some sunsets with my camera.

What I noticed about the main camera is that it over-saturates reds, but only if there are a lot of reds in the frame. However, most cameras do this and it's not as bad as it sounds. Nor does he attempt to lighten the scenes to the point of being unrealistic. It does light enough to make it look nice, but it doesn't make night shots look as good as day shots in auto mode. And yes, you can use auto mode for night shots as long as it's not too dark. However, there is a night mode that can brighten up scenes a bit and it does the job perfectly. What I've noticed is that the phone tends to affect blacks in dark scenes, which can be a problem. In general, I am very satisfied with the main camera, to be honest. He is doing great.

Wide-angle cameras make colors a little more saturated.

Wide-angle cameras provide some saturation. If you switch to the ultra-wide-angle camera, you'll find things a little more saturated. Color science is not the same, although OPPO tries its best to keep them as close as possible. But the ultra-wide camera works well. It provides a field of view of up to 115 degrees and is safe to use in most situations. However, we recommend sticking with the main camera when shooting in the dark as the difference is huge.

The telephoto lens makes things a little less crowded than the main camera, which is the opposite of the ultra-wide camera. The results are good, but highlight something special. You get 2x optical zoom here, and we would have liked 3x or 3.5x on offer, but hey... OPPO had to reduce its weight and thickness here. So we won't complain too much about it. This is a camera you can use with confidence unless you are in a very dark environment In this case, the main camera is a much better option.

Here is a macro mode.

The phone also has a macro mode and it does a good job when there is light in the frame. However, do not try to use it at night. It's not the best macro mode I've seen, but it's not bad. The phone can record 4K video at 60fps and does a pretty good job at it. The frame is stable and has no distortion or the like. Even in low light, it cuts an impressive image. Overall, I am very satisfied with these cameras. I always assume the worst when it comes to foldable devices, but OPPO has done a good job.

Software: Oppo Find N2 Review

Please note that OPPO Find N2 comes with Android 13 and ColorOS 13, but this software is developed for China. At the time of writing this review, OPPO has no plans to bring this phone to the global market mainly due to its foldable tablet status and apps. However, this may change in the future. However, I was able to install Google services on the device without any issues and in that sense everything worked fine. Along the way, I ran into several problems, mainly because the software was made for China.

The Chinese version of ColorOS has its own features
